Yellow petals, deep purple bells and an orange pumpkin: a Halloween arrangement can feel playful, colourful and full of life. At Hoppipolla Florist in Belconnen, we like a palette that brings a little seasonal character to the table while still letting the flowers be themselves.
For yellow and purple Halloween flowers, try yellow roses or spray chrysanthemums alongside purple campanula and statice. Add a little cream or white, some greenery and a pumpkin base, and you have the beginnings of your own little Halloween garden.
Yellow flowers for warmth and shape
Yellow roses
A yellow rose makes a lovely focal point. Its rounded shape gives the eye somewhere to settle among smaller flowers and foliage. Choose a clear lemon yellow for a bright look, or a warmer golden shade to echo the orange of the pumpkin.
Yellow spray chrysanthemums
Small, daisy-shaped chrysanthemums bring a different rhythm to the arrangement. Their open faces look cheerful beside a curled rose, and several smaller blooms can carry yellow through the design without making every flower the same size. Let some face outwards and others turn slightly towards the centre.
Purple flowers for contrast and texture
Campanula, or Canterbury bells
Purple campanula adds bell-shaped flowers and a little height. The open cups look especially expressive beside rounder blooms. Give them enough space to show their shape, with a stem rising above the main cluster rather than hiding every bell among the foliage.
Purple statice
Statice brings small clusters of papery colour. It is useful for threading touches of purple between larger flowers, softening the outline and connecting one part of the arrangement to another. A little can go a long way: leave gaps so you can still appreciate the flowers beside it.

Bring the palette together
Start with yellow as your main colour and purple as a contrasting accent. A few cream or white flowers create a softer pause between the brighter shades, while greenery connects the stems to the pumpkin. Keep some flowers low and let others rise, so the arrangement has movement rather than a flat, tightly packed top.
These are flower ideas, rather than a fixed recipe. Varieties and shades depend on seasonal availability and quality. The photographs are from our pumpkin flower trial; each workshop arrangement will have its own mix and character.
