A bright orange pumpkin, a handful of fresh flowers and an afternoon to make something with your hands. This Halloween at Hoppipolla, we’re turning Jack pumpkins into little flower gardens, with sunny yellows, touches of purple and soft cream tucked among the greenery.
Our trial session gave us a first look at the idea around the table. Some arrangements grew tall and loose; others stayed low and full. Together, they shared the same cheerful palette, with each one taking on its own shape.
A Halloween palette with room to play
The pumpkin is part of the design, bringing a warm orange base to every arrangement. Yellow flowers pick up that warmth, purple adds contrast, and cream gives the brighter colours a little breathing space. Greenery connects the flowers and softens the edge of the pumpkin.
Height changes the feeling, too. A few taller stems draw the eye upwards, while smaller flowers sit closer to the pumpkin. Leaving space between them lets you notice the curve of a stem or the shape of a petal. It’s these small choices that make each little garden feel personal.

One stem at a time
Working slowly lets you see how each flower changes the arrangement. A stem placed a little higher, a flower turned towards the light, a small piece of greenery tucked into a gap: the shape grows through these simple decisions.
The photographs here are from our pumpkin flower trial at Hoppipolla in Belconnen. Each piece follows the same colour palette, while the flowers, heights and little details give it a character of its own.

That’s the pleasure of a little pumpkin garden: familiar Halloween colours, fresh flowers and something made by hand. A cheerful piece to bring a little of the season to the table.
